Ep “Andrew”
Music by Fabio Zito and Arianna Luzi
Singer and Songwriter Arianna Luzi
Musical genre: Pop Rock, Indie, Alternative Rock
Label: Gika Productions
Distribution: Bentley Records
With music in her blood and a great love for dance and acting, Arianna Luzi has discovered her inner voice and has embarked on the complicated path that every singer / songwriter faces in a world of redundant young talents with a dream to realize. With her theatrical experience with the Compagnia della Rancia that takes her from the stages of Italy to Seoul and New York, on the occasion of the collaboration with director Fabio Zito in his comedy “The Snail” ( winner of the Encore producer award at the Hollywood Fringe Festival in Los Angeles) Arianna begins to compose songs. The musical processing of some aspects of our society that still today are unfortunately considered “controversial” and the strong enthusiastic response of the public, reinforce in Arianna the need to sing, with a powerful voice, those life stories that deeply touch her.
Her style musically belongs to the mainstream, to the indie pop and the rock although influences folk and dance are easily recognizable. “Andrew” is a sort of diary in which moments, sensations, anger, amazement and a strong desire to experience all those still unknown aspects that life offers are “noted”. Without false modesty and with a disarming honesty Arianna has put together different pieces, exactly as if they were each a person in his own right with his own story that manages to interact perfectly with the others, apparently randomly.
“The Snail” is one of the songs of the soundtrack of the homonymous theatrical pièce in which the protagonist Andrew is a transgender girl who in her teens decides to embark on the courageous but difficult path of gender change from man to woman. The song arrives in the most delicate and meaningful moment of the whole story, just before she faces the operation that will give her back her real body.
Through the song, Andrew fights the frustrating and oppressive feeling of constantly being in contrast with her body: a body that she does not recognize as her own, a shell that does not belong to her, a body that is exactly the opposite of what she is and that pushes her into the deepest and most remote places of her psyche.
“Fireflies tears” is an autobiographical piece, supported by a strong desire for redemption from a very troubled and suffered childhood.
The title refers to the “tears of the fireflies” or the night lights of the city that Arianna sees as small shimmering tears. The choice to set the piece in the month of December stems from the contradiction of the Christmas period that coincides with her birthday, so moments that should be joyful, against the constant family tensions that inevitably ruin such harmony.
Dedicated to a great friend who in one period of his life has fought the dependence on the crystal meth, “Crystal” is the portrait of a young boy whom Arianna, with immense affection, sees as a fragile crystal that is letting himself go, and her frustration of not being able to avoid the loss of a very special person.
In “Bring it out” masturbation is celebrated with irony, and thanks to the engaging rhythm, the song becomes a wild dance.
“No one wins “ is another extremely autobiographical piece in which the artist reproaches the repeated episodes of psychological violence suffered during her life. Quarrels and battles from which, however, nobody finally won.
“Both” is the sequel to the song “The Snail”, where the protagonist Andrew has now completed the difficult path of gender change. She questions her choice, wondering if it was the right one for her. In the end she claims to be happy in her new identity, because she has reached the strength and freedom she desired.
“Andrew” is the result of the collaboration with Fabio Zito, whose musical influences can be traced back to Pink Floyd, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Pearl Jam and Placebo, making his guitar the perfect companion for Arianna’s voice.
